The lamp posts on Markham and Stouffville Main Streets, Canada are adorned with the names and faces of local soldiers who gave their lives in World War One.

Flanders Fields 1914-2014’ Memorial Garden
The creation of a ‘Flanders Fields 1914-2014’ Memorial Garden is an occasion to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of the Great War and to thank all those who lost their lives or were injured in the battlefields of Flanders.
It is situated near Buckingham Palace, in London, and was designed by the landscape architect Piet Blanckaert from Bruges, Belgium. The Garden opened on Thursday 6th November 2014 during a very special ceremony attended by the Queen and The King of The Belgians.
Tomorrow, the Queen will be accompanied by her husband Prince Philip and other senior members of the Royal Family at the Remembrance service at the National Cenotaph in Whitehal. This year's Remembrance will be particularly moving as 2014 marks the WWI Centenary, the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings and the end of the 13-year conflict in Afghanistan.
*The phrase "lest we forget" forms the refrain of "Recessional.", a poem by Rudyard Kiping that later passed into common usage after WWI across the British Commonwealth especially, becoming linked with Remembrance Day, not to forget past sacrifices.
