New Lanark

Não podia deixar de parar em New Lanark, estando a passar tão perto, no caminho entre a Região dos Lagos, em Inglaterra e Glasgow, na Escócia.

Quando andava na universidade fiz um trabalho sobre o socialismo utópico de Robert Owen. Agradou muito ao Professor Fernando de Mello Moser (1927-1984), professor catedrático da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade Clássica de Lisboa, um excelente professor, que inspirava os alunos. No final tive uma boa nota. 

Em New Lanark foram desenvolvidas diversas reformas sociais para os trabalhadores das fábricas, que tornaram a região muito conhecida em toda a Europa. Aí aplicaram-se as ideias de Robert Owen, que também viveu nesta localidade e cuja casa visitei (gostei muito do sideboard georgiano). A visita a todo o complexo demora cerca de duas horas e não consegui visitar a escola (em 1817 Owen criou a primeira creche para os filhos dos operários).

CAWDOR CASTLE
It was my favourite. The gardens are a must.

URQUHART CASTLE (Lochness)

BALMORAL CASTLE

You can only visit the Ballroom (an exhibition of photographs),  the beautiful gardens, conservatories, the café and the gift shop.

In the café I could not believe the tablecloths were made of plastic... and the sugarcubes?

GLAMIS CASTLE

It was the former residence of the Queen Mother. Photographs are not allowed .

There is a small chapel which is still used for family functions.

Castle tour guides say that one seat in the chapel is always reserved for the "White Lady" (supposedly a ghost which inhabits the castle).

I think the painting of Christ wearing a hat  is very interesting and rare. (internet picture)

What I really disliked was to see so many flower arrangements with artificial flowers.
