António Rosado in Caracas

António Rosado in the Embassy of Portugal, Caracas

On the occasion of the Day of Portugal, Camões and the Portuguese Communities, the Embassy of Portugal in Caracas organized a concert in the Teresa Carreño theatre. It was performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of Venezuela (OSV) and directed by the energetic Joshua dos Santos.

The programme reflected well the importance of the day in Venezuela. It consisted of two Portuguese composers - Carlos Seixas (1704-1742) and João Domingos Bomtempo (1775-1842) - and the Venezuelan composer Aldemaro Romero (1928-2007). Each of the two Portuguese works - namely the Symphony for strings in B flat Major by Carlos Seixas and Bomtempo’s 3rd piano Concerto – were played in Venezuela for the first time.

António Rosado (1963) was invited to perform. He is a Portuguese pianist with a prestigious international career. Not only is he an excellent performer (a perfectionist for sure), but also very easy going.

The concert was a success. Many spectators commented on Antonio Rosado´s skills, especially how he made it all look so simple, hoping also that he could play again.

The concert ended with the work Fuga con Pajarillo, a mixture of Venezuelan music - a very happy melody indeed.

We have always dreamt of having Portuguese composers play in this country. The project was ambitious, of course, not least because organizing the event and bringing this remarkable Portuguese musician seemed, at first, to be a bit difficult. But it was all worth it in the end: the Felix Ribas Room was almost full and we were all very happy!!!!

The Portuguese company Teixeira Duarte made this project possible by being the main sponsor.

The contribution of the Portuguese bank Millennium BCP and the support of Institute Camões in Lisbon were also very important.

Happy Easter

The legend of the Easter Bunny bringing eggs appears to have been brought to the United States by immigrants from southwestern Germany. Both the bunny and the eggs became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth.
