The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of France has released La Liste, the rankings for 1,000 top restaurants around the world. It is a sort of France’s response to the London World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, which has not been kind to restaurants in France in recent years.
According to The New York Times, La Liste represents restaurants in 48 countries and features 101 from USA , 118 from France, 126 from Japan, and 69 from China. Spain, Germany and Italy each have more than 50.
The top-ranking French restaurant is Guy Savoy in fourth place.
The best restaurant in the world is in Switzerland: Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville Crissier, in a suburb of Lausanne.
La Liste will be unveiled formally at a ceremony at the Quai d’Orsay on Dec. 17.
The cost of this initiative, about 300,000 euros, was paid by sponsors led by Nestlé and Moët Hennessy.
